Timeframe for Generating Mice
REM typically can generate a knockout model, from vector design to mouse, in 9-12 months. Factors that impact this timeframe include the presence of pseudogenes in the genome, the chromosomal location of the locus to be targeted, and the effect of haploinsufficiency on germ cells (e.g.- was the target gene imprinted, etc). If the client elects to provide the targeting vector, it typically requires 7-9 months for REM to perform all subsequent steps.
Generation of knockin or conditional alleles in mice usually takes a little longer due to the additional cloning steps and verification of removal of the selection marker, with timeframes ranging from 12- 15 months.
